There are gentler explanations — a stone caught in the brakes, a film of overnight surface rust that clears after a few stops in Florida’s humidity, or a scraping, rubbing sound at low speeds from a bent backing plate touching the rotor. The brake caliper can be the culprit too: a piston that starts to seize, or dry slide pins, keep the pad dragging so you hear it even while gently slowing down. But a constant metallic grind that doesn’t go away is worn pads until proven otherwise.
