Its official name is “Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected” — the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) the ECU sets when it logs multiple cylinder misfires it can’t pin to one cylinder. So code P0300 doesn’t name a single culprit; it tells you combustion is failing in more than one cylinder, and the cause is usually something several cylinders share: ignition, air, or fuel.

If the check engine light is steady and the car runs reasonably, you can drive gently to get it inspected — but don't put it off. If the light is flashing, stop driving as soon as it's safe.
